A Bright Idea? I Think Not…

September 8, 2009

Lastly, this quote I read recently made me laugh, although it’s not really a laughing matter:

“In answer to a question in Parliament by MP David Davies about how to safely dispose of a broken fluorescent light bulb, the House of Commons Commission said people should put on a protective mask and gloves, ventilate the room, place the bulb in a sealed sturdy box with a damp cloth in the box to stop it breaking,  seal with tape and take to waste disposal contractor!”

Well, there you have it. No wonder the government has seen fit to make sure we all have to buy non-traditional lightbulbs for our homes from 1st September. You couldn’t make it up, could you? Safe until they’re broken it seems. I am looking into how we might be able to get round having to use them – let me know if you have had any bright ideas (geddit?! God, I’m too good at this…)

WiFi Protection

September 2, 2008

I recently read an interesting article on this from Nicola Summers on the Natural Nutrition website. I hope she doesn’t mind, but I have picked up a few interesting bits to share with you. Many of you know how I feel about this ubiquitous electromagnetic field. Nicola quite rightly compares it with passive smoking – in the atmosphere, harmful, but worse because you can’t see, hear or taste it, or move away from it. Her problem is mostly with signals coming from neighbours’ houses through the walls and into her house when she doesn’t want it. I feel the same – it’s tantamount to electro magnetic pollution of my home. She wants to be able to object to this as she would noise pollution.

One thing I didn’t know was that “the German government, not known for having an alarmist attitude, say that WiFi should be avoided because of the potential health risks it may pose and have urged their citizens towards the use of telephone line internet access instead.” I had a right fight with Philip and the boys about this as I stood my ground and demanded cable broadband connections instead of WiFi. They thought I was mad – but now I find that the German government agrees with me! (I am feeling smug!)Nicola also gives these useful guidelines: “There are many steps you can take to avoid exposure to electro magnetic stress. Firstly be aware that if you have WiFi in your home, even when you are not using it, if it is left switched on, it will be continuously contacting the WiFi node to maintain a good connection and the control node transmits a pulsing signal continuously to synchronise the system.

“Reduce your exposure in the home to this type of radiation by not having WiFi (or at the very least switching it off when not in use and negotiate with your neighbours to do the same – particularly during the body’s night time cleanse); switch off the mobile phone; get rid of cordless phones; baby monitors, microwave ovens.“To protect myself, I bought an electro smog detector to measure the pulsing frequency that was coming through the wall into my home. The noise was alarming to say the least and particularly as I found that the worse affected area was my food pantry. I then I applied a carbon based paint, painted the adjoining wall and earthed the wall. I re-tested with the electro smog detector, repainted any hot spots where the signal was still able to penetrate and now there is no signal – all is peaceful! I purchased all of these products through

www.emfields.org but there are other types of paint available from other sources.”www.emfields.org but there are other types of paint available from other sources.”

Scientists Create Allergy-Free Eggs

September 2, 2008

Chemists in Germany have found a way to lessen the allergy potential of eggs – which is a big deal especially for kids as it is the leading allergen in childhood. They discovered that heating the egg to a high temperature and adding enzymes helped break down the allergy proteins and made it much less likely children would react to them. It will be a while before they become available, so in the meantime, keep doing what we have always done and give your allergic children Junior Digestaid – guess what? – enzymes to help them break it down. Nice to know scientists are catching up with us…!

Tip: Don’t Lose Your Luggage!

September 2, 2008

I saw this great gadget the other day and thought I’d pass it on for you. You can now buy a nifty barcode readable tag to put on your luggage online at www.tracemeluggagetracker.com. If your luggage goes astray, any one of 1960 airports worldwide can scan your tag, discover who you are, and the Trace Me will send an automatic text and email to you telling you how to get your luggage back! How useful is that?! They cost £12.50 or £19.95 for two. Much cheaper than the increase in your insurance premiums after a claim. Then again, sometimes it’s nice to have a whole new wardrobe…

Fancy A Hug?

July 8, 2008

I just had to include this! I am known in our family as the ‘Cuddle Queen’. I can’t help it; I love hugs! Now we’ve closed the clinic and Philip is off doing other stuff sometimes (currently voiceover and acting – you can fall about laughing now…!), well, I’m not getting as many hugs as I would like. So, how pleased was I to see that in future you may be able to buy a Hug Shirt (from Cute Circuit.com)? Cleverly, you give yourself a hug and it senses the strength of the squeeze and sends a corresponding one to the other person wearing the hug shirt so they feel the hug too! How cool is that?! Apparently it is sent via Bluetooth wifi to the other person’s phone. Now, I hate wifi, but for that I could be tempted….

Hate Needles at the Dentist?

June 9, 2008

Well you’re in luck then. You could give hypnotherapy a go, of course which is your simplest solution to get rid of the phobia for good. Failing that, a new frozen gum shield is now available that numbs the area and produces a surprisingly powerful pain relief after any work too. In tests the average person had 100% pain relief in 2-3 minutes, lasting up to 20 minutes. The GumEase G100 is a cryotherapy and is not yet widely available, but you can ask your dentist in advance of an appointment to get it for you by contacting cryodevices.com.
